After School Program FAQ’s

2020 Cochran’s Friday After School Program Questions & Answers:

What is the program schedule? Answer: Lessons start at 3:45 p.m. and go til 4:45 p.m. with free ski from 4:45 – 5:30 p.m.

Is the program fee for each week or for the whole program? Answer: Cochran’s Ski Area has very generously maintained an affordable fee for the after school program. The “one-time” $50 fee includes instruction and free skiing for the full length of the program.

Who do I make the payment check out to and where should I mail it? Answer: Please make checks payable to Cochran’s Ski Area and mail to Sue Znamierowski at 42 Collins Mtn Rd, Richmond, VT 05477. Please do not leave checks at your child’s school or at Cochran’s.

Are scholarships available? Answer: If your child(ren) participates in the free or reduced lunch program, he/she is eligible for a scholarship that covers the cost of the program and rental. Please indicate F/R on your application and a scholarship will be provided to your child(ren).

When will you cash my payment check? Answer: Checks are deposited at the end of January 2020.

What if school is cancelled on the day of class? Answer: If school is cancelled or has an early dismissal, no ski program will be held.

What if the snow conditions are poor or it is extremely cold/windy/rainy? Answer: We’ll create an email contact list to let parents and guardians know about cancellations either Thursday night or by 9:00 a.m. Friday. Please include email addresses on the application form. Please do not call your child’s school for information.

How do the rentals work? Answer: The rental fee covers the length of the program, but rentals are for the program day only. Your child’s equipment will be waiting on the picnic tables inside the lodge every Friday. Please have your child return the equipment to the lodge when he/she is done skiing/riding for the day. Rental fitting is at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6th at the lodge.

Are snowboard rentals available? Answer: There are a limited number of snowboards (& boots) available. We strongly suggest you consider leasing snowboard equipment if possible from one of the local retail shops – Ski Express, Alpine Shop or Ski Rack (or purchasing used equipment).

Can my child take a school bus to Cochran’s? Answer: It looks like we’ll have ten slots on RES bus #34 that goes to Cochran’s. If you need a bus ride for your child, please make a note on your application form and I’ll let you know as soon as possible if I can accommodate.

Can my kindergartner participate? Answer: Yes, however a parent or guardian must be at the base of the hill during lessons and free time, and with the child in the lodge.

What type of clothing should my child have? Answer: Lots of layers! Polypropylene or wool long underwear works best, mittens, socks, fleece layers, snow pants, and warm jacket or shell. Helmets are very warm! If your child comes right from school, please pack a spare pair of dry socks and mittens.

Where do we meet on the first day? Answer: We’ll set up meeting areas by level and will have group assignments posted outside the lodge – please have your child ready to go by 3:40.

Can my child ski during February vacation? Answer: Cochran’s Ski Area has very generously allowed our program kids to ski for free, one day (all day) during the February vacation. Rentals will be available. Let the folks at the Snack Bar know your child is with the Chittenden East After School Program and they’ll get a free day pass. Please do not plan to ski on Town Meeting Day.
